A freind of mine recently bought a pony - who to cut a long storey short, is not even close to being suitable - so she's sent him to me for some schooling - and I will probaly have to sell him for her!

I have managed to establish the basics with him - ie/ walk trot and er canter (ish) he will also accept the bit and stop - sort of on request!

I do however ride him on draw reins at the mo - please dont shout - I know its not done, but I darent ride him without at the mo!

I believe he has been broken in very badley - and as a result he thinks he has to go everywhere - very quickly, to say hes sharp is an under exageration - and I like my cobs!

He tends to get very tense and nervous, and at this point he could be dangerous - not because hes nasty - but his flight response will kick in!

My question is - how do I progerss with him?

Any Ideas welcome?! I am not the bravest of jockeys - but once im on him, I do quite enjoy him?!

Also are there any jockeys who would want such a pony?!

They're so very hard to sell

If he's nervous, maybe do more on the ground. Some seem to live on their nerves and it's a crying shame because they can end up getting passed on and on and on. You need the right person who has plenty of time and patience to spend on him - perhaps advertise him as a project if he has to be sold

Yeah TH - I think you've got it in one!

He's been with me for about 3 monthes now - and iv only just started the ridden work - spent ages teaching him to go well and calmly on the lunge first!

He went really well yesterday calm (for him) on both reins, in all paces.

Today Iv ridden him, exactly the same - but he fought me all the way - so i just let him go and do what he wanted, he cantered really well, but hates being told - so i just sat the on a 20m circle - for half hour until he wore himself out - I felt really bad, but I dont know what to do?!

Im going to try a different bit tomorrow, see how that fares!

if he has any sort of jump- try the showjumper i know over here they love projects like this one example i know is a pony my mom bought for £150(it was £ at the time) that was broken to trap but way too flighty for ridden work and to be actually driven and gave to a friend of ours who is a show jumper and his 8 year old son who reschooled him and ended up jumping him in 128cm abc classes and when he grew out of him he sold him for €50000 aka 50k ahhh

so try doing that
