Hi Guys I am in need of some real help from you experts. I have a yearling (rising 2yrs) old show hunter. He got a knock on the knee some months ago that was not addressed as soon as it happened (long story, don;t ask). The knock is pretty much thick skin, completely cosmetic. It was scanned by vet who said there is no damage at all. However as a showhunter it is a biug NoNo to have any bumps. The bump is very small & not that noticable except in the conformation section of the show ring:-( My question is do you have suggestions of how to reduce the bump? Currently i am trying goose fat which I was told may help.
I was all recommended to use 10% idione to burn off the thick skin. I have been told it is like red & blue blister which was used 20 or 30 years ago (now off hte market). Sounds h**** but maybe worth a try if nothing else works cos he is no good to me if I cannot show him. what are your thoughts on this as an option? Thoughts? Comments? help?
Thanks

Im not sure if this will work on old swelling but Fuciderm cream is excellent. It is a steriod cream for dogs but my vets seem to prescribe it for many horse problems including mud fever and proud flesh. When my mare got a gash on her neck that couldnt be stitched due to her needing to be sedated and she is in foal we had to leave it to heal itself. It healed very well but left a bit of proud flesh, putting the fuciderm on twice a day for a week took it right down and it closed over. When the hair grew back it was still a bit raised so i used it for another week and now you cant even notice there was a cut there at all apart from feeling an ever so slight bump that the eye cant see. Plus it is rather cheap compared to most things so may be worth a shot if your vet will give you some although you may need to use it for longer on an older injury

| great thanks alot guys. At least this gives me options. I wil continue with teh goos fat for 2 more weeks. if there is no improvement I will try the fuciderm as it's less intrusive as the iodine & less costly then the laser I suspect. then i'll try the iodine - this would be my last resort though in case it introduces other blemishes thanks for the advise
