Now i have a horse that I am settled with and anticipate having for many many years and competing with showing etc. I am looking to slowly starting to upgrade his gear. Obviously saddles are still changing every five minutes with his ever changing shape still.

But I was thinking of investing in a really nice hunter type bridle and cavesson show bridle for showing and dressage.

And my question is do the higher priced bridles really make a massive difference to say a 20 pound robinson one which is what he is ridden in every day at the moment.

If so which ones do you rate?

the only small think I have noticed with the more expensive bridle is they dont tend to go mouldy crack or stiff. Which I guess is most comfy for the horse but I also have cheap bridles which dont do this either.

So other than the basic is there anything about the more expensive bridles that make them better than the cheap and cheerful brands?

numnah

Well i love my horseware poly pad as it is very thick ( marble came with scars on his withers from a bad fitted saddle so we try not to have any pressure there) however when washed the poly pads filling moves around and bunches up :(
So after a year of this it is starting to effect marbles way of going so we went to buy a new one today but there all so thin :O
So any suggestion ( not too pricey either) temperarly we have a thin numnah and half pad

heather moffat back pads

has anybody ever used one under a treeless saddle? would i need to put anything else under it?

Setting up my own shop :)

Hi everyone,

Ive been a keen hunter, show jumper and dressage girl for the last 7 years, and what really annoys me is searching for the right attire to wear on the internet.

searching for 'hunting jacket' in google only seems to come up with camouflage jackets and so on, So ive just started up an online shop that seperates all the clothes into their categories : hunting, dressage, showing, show jumping, and cross-country.

I would absolutely love some feedback from anyone on the forum whose got a spare minute, ive been a frequent reader on here for a while now but havent joined up until now.

I'd really appreciate it if you could have a look and tell me what you think :) (many more clothing lines will be coming in the next week or so)

The link is : http//:www.the-equestrian-wardrobe.com/shop

Thanks everyone

Hi Vis that works

If you need hi vis that works, google "Polite Hi Vis"
You'll find this:

The owner of the mare I'm sharing has one, and I swear to God, drivers slam the anchors on three miles away from the horse, because at first glance it looks like "Police".
About £20, and there are other bits and pieces to go with it too, if you need/want them (hatband, rug, etc.)

Flexi reins? Had the saddler out today for Bisto and he's said there's a good chance the saddle is what's causing the trouble - however he's said no matter what saddle he has unless it's completely custom built it won't fit right.

The problem is he is higher withered than he is at his hind quarters so the saddle is brought up at his withers, making it sit lower on them and because he's hollow behind his shoulder it might be pinching because the saddles too wide.

However, if i bring the saddle up at the front then the back is going to rub/ sit too low. So... i either need a back riser pad (probably a wintec one) or some form of gel pad. He's also suggested a high withered griffin NuMed fluffy numnah.

Anyone got any good ideas? Also - if anyone's got a blue (med/wide) gullet for a wintec they'd like to sell?

If i can't get the saddle right i'll have to leave him for this summer i think and buy an Albion with the adjustable pockets (no idea which one this is... if anyone has knowledge of these what do you know ;) ) and start again next summer. Sort of good... as i may have a cause for the napping but gutting cos he said I could buy the best saddle in the world that fitted better than anything and it still wouldn't be right.

Damn horse!!! Wish i had the specially fitted saddle he'd been bought before his old livery yard nicked it! These would be best if they were laminated to prevent the ink from running. He suggested cutting a small hole and sliding the card inside. That way if a rug is found which matches a description they can have a feel and if there is a card - give you a call or email you and there's a chance of getting the rug back.

I'm gonna give it a try - it won't deter thieves but will possibly mean that if the rug is ever recovered it'll be returned!

Nosey question!

I have noticed that my jodhpurs have suddenly all gone to holes at seemingly the same time! It led me to wondering how many pairs do you all have for day to day use (if you wear them!) and how much you spend and what your favourites are?

I have some sticky bum style jodhs in a very strange brown colour. Great to ride in but look hideous off the horse - bought second hand off Ebay! My favourite pair are a cheap pair of Robinsons Requisite ones which are black with a thin white pin stripe and big poppered pockets - but they have grown as they've got older so would now fit someone almost twice my size!

I have about 6 pairs of jodhpurs but only wear two pairs regularly (both Requisite) and live and die in my denim jean jodhpurs (can't remember the make).

Riding Hats!

So I think it's time I bought myself a new riding hat. It meant that I knew where I was at with the sizing as I already have Rimfrost Riders & Fusion boots. So imagine my surprise when they arrived & didn't fit! :hehe:

They're just too big & loose around the ankles, so I'll sell them on again anyway. I went to the big tack warehouse place this morning as they were advertising a sale. Tried on a couple of pairs (Shires & Mackeys) & found they were both really loose around the ankle/heel too, despite the rest of the boot fitting quite snuggly.

Having tried on 40 - 80 euros price range I asked the girl if I could try some Ariats just to see if anything would feel better or if I'm destined to wear long boots forever more!!

OMG - made to measure or what? And the feel of them was something else! So now I'm stuck, it has to be Ariats or nothing! The shop ones were reduced to €140 so I'll see if I can find anything cheaper on EBay. I just can't believe how wonderful they felt!

Bargain!!!

http://www.lidl.co.uk/cps/rde/xchg/lidl_uk/hs.xsl/index_18251.htm

£6.99 for a fleece and set of 4 bandages

Look at these!!!

:w00t:

http://www.hivizhoodies.co.uk/

Wow is all i can say to that!

bits

help does anybody know were you can buy bits in either 61/4 inch or 61/5 inch i cant find them anywere.:w00t:

Boots please

Right you lot - the pressure is on! You successfully sized me into my lovely new bootcut riding trousers but now I need the boots to go with them. I always wear long boots & have 2 sorts of Mountain horse which I love. But the plan is for some short joddy boots to go with my bootcuts.

I hate new leather stuff that give you blisters etc. & take forever to break in & soften so I'd rather buy 2nd hand! If I buy from EBay I don't get to try on - so I need to work out what will fit.

My Mountain Horse boots are a 39 & I wear them with 2 pairs of socks. My hunter wellies are a size 5 (38). I also have Doc Martin shoes in a 5, Reef & North Face in a 6 & Reebok in a 5.5.

So do you have any suggestions for a nice joddy boot & do you know if they come up large or small or what?!

exercise rugs

i have always had one for winter however i didnt buy one last winter for molly and have none for marble need 2 exerxise rugs a 6'6 and a 6' can you recomend any good ones and cheap :)

Sizing - Ariat in particular!

I've seen some really nice riding trousers (boot cut rather than joddies) on EBay & the seller has 2 different types so I'll save on postage.

One is simply a Size 12 which is fine because I'm always a size 12! But the others are listed as a 28. Now when I was a student I worked in a shop selling jeans & a 28 in mens was equivalent to a size 10 in womens so a size 12 was a 30 waist. But looking at a few jods on Ebay & I've seen people listing 28s as a size 12.

I asked the seller if they are a 10 or 12 & he just says that nobody that's bought the 28 has complained about the sizing so they must be right  No point in measuring my waist as these are hipsters. So just wondering if anyone has owned or just tried on ariat jods or trousers or anything that could tell me if a 28 will fit a size 10 or a size 12 (ie. ME!)

Waterproofs

Do you use waterproof gear - over pants in particular?

Is it comfortable? I'm looking on Ebay all the time but they're selling used for good money too.

I think there's a distinct lack of second hand tack and riding wear shops about!

Rugs!

anyone got any good value rugs?

I need a 100-200g rug, preferably with a neck that can either be taken off or folded back comfortably, he's not a rug ripper so it doesn't have to be hard wearing

combo fleece/cooler

I'd like both around £30 ideally, no more than £50 for the turnout (please bare p&p in mind)

Joey's being clipped soon (probably a blanket but maybe high trace) and it's so cold already I need to be able to cover his neck that I'm removing hair from if he needs it

Colours not too important and he's 6ft, I'm also looking in local tack shops so though I may not follow up on peoples opinions they will be so handy to have so I can look in store for the same

thanks x

Hoof boot for abcesses

What a brilliant idea - has anyone used these?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220674435310&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Kids Hunters

http://www.next.co.uk/shopping/shoes/boysshoes/24/3?extra=sch&n=branded&pid=703-307&returnurl=%2fsearch%3fp%3dQ%26lbc%3dnext%26uid%3d309441627%26ts%3dv8%26w%3dhunter%2520wellies%26af%3d%26method%3dand%26filter%3dsubset%253a4201%26nxtv%3d0%26nxti%3d0%23703%2d307&bct=%26quot%3bHunter%20Wellies%26quot%3b

I might get Lucy some of these :D

this was just a tought

i tought about this a while back then talked myself out of it but decided to just ask your opion

i was wondering if say every week or every 2 weeks one of us did a product review about things like rugs, fly spray, ect to help people

please tell me if this is just thick

Xtra Full Size Browband!

I'm currently saving up for a decent bridle for Oscar but to get us through on the bridle he has I'm needing to purchase a xf browband around 17" or longer and I'm struggling to find anything that wont break the bank.

Do any of you guys have any ideas where I could get a reasonable priced one. They're expensive but worth every penny and are very comfortable on your horses back. They're well cut and really clear the spine, and great for stabilising the saddle too and they stick to it with no straps :D

Myler Combination Bit

Sooo... Poppy is being a little biatch. She's in a full cheek snaffle at the moment, and looking at the thing... I have a feeling the reason she likes to stick her nose in the air, or jerk at the reins, is because there's too much pressure on her tongue and she doesn't like it. (None of my horses ever liked snaffle bits btw, it's why I often went with a Bosal.)
She does this on long reins btw, with no hand contact at all from me. (I was worried it was me, so I rode her without hands on the reins, weight only... and she still did it.)

She's not ready for a Bosal. :)
She's also being headstrong and iffy in traffic with a snaffle bit and likes to fight you with it.

I was looking at the Myler combo bits, as they combine a short shank, snaffle and bosal (well, a hackamore, really) and elliviate pressure on the tongue.

I have no experience with them though, and I wondered if anyone has used one and what your experiences are.

I did get into a "lively discussion" with someone about western shanked snaffles before.
I was told they are "brutal" bits -- which is total rubbish. They are only brutal in the wrong hands, but so is a snaffle or a hackamore.
The amount of people I see "sawing" on a snaffle bit... well, yeah. If you did that on a curb bit, it's brutal. But I find it brutal on a snaffle, too. I'd go for a very short shank Reinsman, but I think her owner would freak.
Personally, I'd rather lift my little finger and get an instant response, with a very light touch, than fight with her on a busy road in a snaffle bit which she's got between her teeth...

Besides, I want to wean her off the bit completely eventually. :)
Carrying stuff whilst hacking?

I'm sure I can't be the only one that wants to take a phone camera and possbily some water on a hack?

But in this hot weather it's the thinnest jodhs you can find and a tshirt so no pockets. :(

I have seen those phone holders but they seem to come in ubber small and wouldnt fit a bottle of water and a camera in.

I'm not after anything too clumpy for heat etc

What do you use to carry a few items in?
