I cant wait

as anyone who has read my last post here knows we have 2 ponies qualified for the HSI youstock final in caven so we are heading down tomorrow then friday we have our normal classes then our HSI final in the evening preformance so im really excited then we are home for 1am and off to another show at 6am whoo :D

I've sent off the application forms for the local Open show in 10 days time! I'm entering Missy for two classes:

Ring Experience & Veteran in-hand (yes I'm a coward!)

I have minimal money to spend & the following "stuff" at my disposal:-

Black bridle, black wintec dressage saddle or

Brown GP Fieldhouse saddle (& buying a sensible price brown bridle)

I have a Rugby(?) pelham (the sort where you can use a headstall) which has only been used once so far. Am I better to use the kimblewick she uses now or try to work her as much as possible in the intervening time in the pelham? Am I better using the headstall to recreate the double bridle (if I buy the brown one it is a double bridle)? Obviously I need to get another set of reins if I'm using the exisitng black bridle

Grey tweed jacket which fits nicely, no long boots - only black jodhpur boots and decent gaiters, canary jodhpurs, blue collared shirt & got to buy a tie. Only a black riding hat.

Does the colour of my tack affect the colour of gloves and show cane (ie if I use black tack do I have black cane & gloves or still use brown?)

I'm reckoning on showing her as a ridden horse :w00t: as Missy's jumping is too hit and miss for hunter classes and I'm not good enough to counteract that! I think this means a coloured browband to match my shirt and tie? Is this right?

Any advice or websites much welcome :) I am not going out to win a rosette as I don't have a cat in hell's chance and little time for preparation but equally i'd prefer not to make a complete t1t of myself by getting it SO wrong! It is a small, friendly show as far as I've seen in the past.

Wish I was still young enough to do the gymkhana - that's about my level!

Inhand question

Az is all entered to do inhand open horse and inhand riding horse in two weekends

Now my question is re the bridle. I thought you were supposed to show in inhand bridles but I've also been told that thats for younger horses (4 and under) and that older horses should be shown in their riding bridles with reins.

So my question is is this right and should i literally wear it as if he's tacked ready to ride in both classes ie two pairs of rein and coloured browband and pelham?

And would a hunter type bridle be more correct for open horse? Or should I used the raised noseband for both?

Our ponies did amazing i love them so here are the results
2/3yr old sec B - Blondie -1st
sec B youngstock champion - blondie
sec B overall champion- blondie won her 2nd welsh medal
she lost out on overall welsh champion because she was tired but we dont care she bet ridden ponies at 2yrs old :)

2/3yr old show pony - jack- 2nd we were a bit disappointed as we wanted to get him qualified for caven but its a very scary show grounds with rings beside a busy road so he was a little spooked
2/3yr old part bred - Jack -1st
partbred youngstock champion -jack
reseve partbred in hand -jack
reserve overall partbred -jack

4yr old and over partbred welsh -mo
partbred in hand champion -mo welsh medal
overall partbred champion mo

We are delighted with how all of them went as it is one the spookyest shows and very unsafe with a 15-20 foot walk way with ponies and horses parked on both sides with there butts facing the middle and children all around
As this is my first proper year inhand showing you cant in ireland in ips til you are 17 so have these results is amazing i showed blondie and jack

Cob Class

I was terrified all yesterday and this morning because i decied to do marble first showing class and i all i could imagine was when we went for the group gallop i wouldnt be able to pull up :(
Ok so my last riding club event went so bad we didnt even get in the ring so today he warmed up well in his double bridle ( 3rd time in it :O ) and spurs (second ever time )
and we went in the were 4 of us and of cause marble towered over them all :P wasnt brillently on the bit but he is 5 against the next youngest is 9 in the gallop he wasd actually lazy :) in the judges ride he was really responceive broke to trot from canter like 3 times but pick it straight up and the judge said he was brillently schooled his trot up was terrible becausr it was his 2nd time ever and they made us trot up the wrong way :(
he came 3 rd which i was delighted with however during the lap of honor ( a gallop ) the cow in 4th ran up his inside poor marble got a fright and stuck in a massive buck but god im so so proud of him and he has another show next monday :D

Cob/Hunter/Family Horse

Right.

We're going to go to a show in July and I'm taking Bisto. It's a showing show and is only local riding club level and they're very relaxed about suitability and tack.

So... what kind of class would you suggest Bisto went in to? Obviously we won't be doing any of it with a view to winning but what would be the most suitable and then... once you've told me that... what would be the best thing for me to wear? ;) Obviously never done this showing thing, probably not the best idea to do it with a horse i can't canter (yet), but think if i don't do it this summer then i never will. I don't want either of us to look stupidly in the wrong class. ;)

Here's the lad... his tail is a bit longer than this now...

We headed over to Tramore Agricultural Show today. Kobee rode Smurf in the Sportsmans 80cm & got a double clear & took Fudge into the Working Hunter under 14hands class & came 2nd :D

I was especially chuffed with her for riding so well. She has ridden both ponies wayyyyy too fast before now & I've been trying to get her to understand how important it is to be in control. She understood that the scoring in the WH would suffer if she looked like a wild thing. Then it was so long since Smurf had studs in, there was no way they were going in today & that arena had suffered a lot of slips throughout the day - so speedy Smurf just wasn't an option! She rode them both perfectly coming back to a trot for the tighter turns etc.

So two more lovely rosettes & a nice embroidered saddle cloth came home with us :P

My mom had rto go to the show yesterday on her own with out 2 2yr olds
and wow did she do well we now have 1 qualified for thchampionship show in caven whooo im so happy only second qualifier of the year :D
and its my 2yr old so i get to show him in caven

well our yougstock have been going amazing on saturday last week we had 3 ponies to a massive championship show in caven my moms 2 yr old deliah won her class with mom and then the championship with me moms 5 yr old mo won her class then the championship both with mom (she was quite badly behaved and came back weird off loan in oct and is getting there now ) then my 2yr old stevie won his class.
then this saturday we had a large show only 3 hours away so off we went first in was jack my 2 yr old he won his 2 classes then mo came 2nd and deliah cleaned up won her class , champion welsh sec B and champion youngstock of the show then today we had only 2 going so jack went in won his class then stevie came second and res champion :D
so so happy with them no more shows til june :(

to clip or not to clip?

I have a 2 yr old that i show inhand. He has a very woolly coat & the showing season starts at end of April. He is well rugged but he won;t lose all his wooliness by April. Of course I want to show him at his best.

I was thinking if I clipped him that by APril he would have a nice light shiny coat.

Is it normal to clip youngstock ? are there any potential drawbacks?

Conformation vs behaviour

Went and watched a local show yesterday where there were some very nice horses being shown in-hand (pretty sure it was a youngstock class as there seemed to be a lot of young-ish horses!) There were about 12-15 in the class and one woman showing a very pretty chocolate dun struggled from start to finish holding him. He was a 2 year old gelding and he actually pulled free and took off around the arena to flirt with the mares on three separate occasions (apparently tried to mount one before we arrived)! :w00t: He came 5th. How highly does behaviour rank in a judge's decision? I'm not criticising the judge as the horse was lovely but I wonder how peeved some of the owners of other beautifully behaved horses might have felt, some of which were also pretty special looking too to my uneducated eyes!!

Showing Clothes and tack

I'm to sort out my own xmas presents from my family so I thought I'd get some competition clothes for next year.

I havent got any xc stuff I have some showing stuff. So I'm umming and urring what outfit to get from them.

I need outfits and tack for lightweight hunter type and large riding horse.

Im guessing light weight hunter is

Tweed jacket, cream jodhs and gloves, navy or brown hat, brown or black boots pending on the colour tack and a hunter bridle? Or would a double bridle be most correct (not that I can use one anyway so I'd stick to a single bridle).

Riding horse I gather is Navy coat and hat black boots and gloves and cane to match tack with a coloured browband no numnah?

So please can you tell me if i have anything wrong?

Also do you find the price tag matters? Or when showing is good quality a must?

Just wondered really as I usually buy really cheap, but I also dont want to braking and looking tatty after one or two competitions so it may be cheaper in the long run to go for more mid priced stuff?

Also any suggestions on stuff you like would help me lots :)

and only really started showing at the end of july
but this weekend we came res champion
we did not deseve it we did one time changes and airs above the ground
but im still happy with her as it was better than at the start of the year
now mam takes over for the winter for dressage

max hasnt been out for about 6 weeks due to not being well and having a small break from it all ;)

i took him out yesterday and came 2nd in the youngstock (max dragged me around :P :D)

and we won the m&ms :hehe: (max was a tad calmer :D )

we qualified chiltern and thames for both classes a few months ago (might not go as we get back from holiday on the saturday and show is on the sunday )

but we now have tickets to royal london show 2010 (but we are away that weekend)

i am doing one more show on the monday 30th aug ...and then i think that will be it for the year ....we have been to 6 ish this year and he has been a star , once we are back from our holiday i will let him down altogether till next year :)

well this morning at 10 i had our first class molly warmed up amazing in the indoor

so went in class but had to walk around for 30mins as were running ahead of schedual so molly go fresh again :( so went on the wrong leg like 5 times so wasnt called forward as 1 of the 2 to qualifie for the evening performance

the we had freestyle to music and molly was amazing did canter syerpentines and one haned canter circles :D :D

but judge was a ***** and took off marks for being over time limit (there was no time limit til we went in the class :( )

but off to virginia tomorrow :D then back to caven

cant wait going to caven tomorrow geting molly setteled then like 5 classes on fri the home fri night wash other 4 there in virgina on sat then hom eto get molly and other 2 and offf to caven again on sunday

we had our first show on sunday no one else in the class but i dont care there was no rearing no buck one wrong leg my fault and one change bad ground but i <3 her so much

Youngstock Showing?

Just wondering what the correct turnout is for youngstock? Apache is one and has a bit of a long flowing hippy mane. ;)

He's ID x TB x WB so I imagine he'll need plaiting? Also as he's pale in colour does this mean i should wear darker trousers? There's a couple of shows locally i could take him to and one i'm particularly interested in. :)

Also... what kind of bridle should he be in? Does he need to be bitted? Etc.

3 weeks ago Atlone (mom was judgeing so abandonded me and my friend ann with our 3 all in hand)

chinders last as she was a tramp but after 11 years off showing it to be expected
sally 1st part bread and res champ overall part bred

2 weeks ago (balnahinch and startbally)(mollys bad weekend)

molly 3rd show riding type intermediate(srt 158)

I m thinking of taking tom in some ridden cob classes.This is probably an obvious question but will i get marked down for using a wintec saddle?

I have a leather bridle but dont think i can afford another saddle.

I know I have to wear a tweed jacket as well or can it be black?What colour jods?

There are a few shows coming up with best cob/cob type classes and best coloured classes.

I've only done in hand before, but am thinking about giving the ridden ago (im hoping to be sneaky and just attempt to canter on our better rein to get a few strides to show... but if it doesnt happen use it as an experience class).

Could anybody tell me the correct turn out for these classes and whether it is the same?

:D:D:D:D:D:D i still cant believe it :w00t: :D but we won the m and m yesterday and went on to take the championship :D:D:D:D:D

MAX was a star and put in 110% !!! we one 3 rosettes 2 trophies and a SASH :D:D

im sooooo pleased how this pony is turning out and yesterday was just the best !!!

as some of you might remember mid last year a lost the horse a had loaned for 3 years ( the horse was given back as the owner didnt want to right me a contract so on and so on ) well it broke my heart to give that horse back .

but now i can see the bigger picture , with or without the rosettes this pony means the world to me , i have tears in my eyes as i write this ,

girls from the old yard came along yesterday and would have loved to see max and i fall but some how we pulled it off ...and we had the last laugh

Mr Peachy's neice & I are doing her first ever show tommorow morning. We (more she) has been practising for months & i'm actually really looking forward to it myself, i know she's going to love it.

Had a bit of a scare mid week as Alfie came in puffing & coughing from the field (he has occasional mild COPD) after a visit from the vet & a course of Ventopulmin we thought it was game over for him this weekend so called upon a few favours & arranged to borrow another pony. However he has shown great improvement in the last 48 hours & so the plan is to take him again tommorow, however we have a back up plan in place incase at any stage he starts coughing again. Bathed him again tonight & he looks stunning! Bless him.

Need to get my running shoes on, eeek!

Will report back & im sure someone will be taking pictures :D

Local show

Today we went to 1 of our local shows and my mum took her 2 year old cob in the youngstock class, in total there was 10 people in the class.

There was a mixture of all sorts of young horses in there from minitures up to a rather large coloured cob.

Anyway... we watched them trot around and 2 youngsters reared up 1 of them started boxing at the owner another 1 refused to trot and would only walk round, then it came to the individual show the same few horses were very rude and wouldn't stand in the line up 1 of the ponies kept spinning around and bashing in to my mums horse who just stood there and ignored it, When it came the turn of these naughty ponies they behaved the same in the show and wouldn't stand still for the judge to look at them and 1 nearly knocked the judge over by swinging around but they all did there show and all wet back out to walk around for the calling of the placing

AND THEN...... She placed a stunning section D first which desereved to win it was beautiful and did behave but then after that all the naughty ponies got placed, my mums horses never put a foot wrong he was well manered and stood perfect for the judge and trotted when asked and was very good now I am not saying he should of won at all becasue the 1 who won should of won with out a doubt but I just coulnd't understand why she placed badly behaved ponies??

Then after she called in the one's who had been placed she told the remaining 4 to stand in a corner and 1 lady said this is dangerous we should be allowed to go out or at least stand in a safe place not where the placed horses are going to trot passed us and well yes she was right as 1 of the placed horses spooked at another 1 getting upset at them trotting passed and knocked the owner over and stood on her!

So after the class I went over and said I was just wondering what this class is judged on and she said confirmation and manners so I asked her why she placed rude manners above good and I wans't rude and she was very rude back to me.

I just don't understand how this works?

my retired 148cm riding mare got draged to a show as a companion and ending up doing amazing in her 2 classes so is no longer retired now doing in hand showing again ha

part bred over 4 year old - 1st
championship - champion

love natty so much
and i was showing

part bred under 3 year old -2nd
mom was showing
so i out did my mom ha ha ha

blue is doin really well this year and is also behavin better, we've been to 2 shows both at bridgewater rc, first show did ok but he still was a bit wooly- he came 6th out 12 in youngstock and 9th out of 13 in m&m small breeds at the april show

may show we came 1st out of 5 in youngstock- but he got place higher than a pony thats always wins the classes he enters, so was over the moon, that pony did come 2nd and mr jones 3rd:D in m&m he came 3rd out of 13 and with that pony in 2nd, mr jones got 12th:D the judge said blue had lovely free paces and was more exaggerated moving.

so well happy:D:D got warrington next monday than cheshire show, can't wait!!!!!

anyway were taking the two section A's to this one, and enetering youngstock n M&M the show is a quifier for uk showin and midland champs where i went last year with blue:D

Showing on a budget

OK - so we have the perfect pony to get out there & start showing. Just need a plan now!
For those of you who don't know, Lola is a 12hands Welsh-x, liver chestnut in colour. I currently have a brown gp saddle (which I already had & just happens to be a great fit!), a black bridle :doze: (don't say a word - I hate mixing colours too).
I asked the RI what she thought at the weekend & she suggested that we may as well swap her from the happy mouth snaffle bit (again, just what I had in her size), into an ordinary snaffle bit which would do for showing & everything. In the tack shop I saw an eggbutt dressage snaffle which really appealed as the rings were smaller & more delicate looking which would suit her tiny head. So I've ordered one in her size.
The RI also said she could really do with wearing a martingale - I have one in black (only use it when I'm told the pony needs one ;))

What do people recommend I buy/change to give her a good all round sort of wardrobe. The bridle is a Fairly good quality English Leather, but don't know if it's good enough or the right sort for showing. I expect Kobee will be doing WH classes. Oh yeah & what should she wear?! I'll probably get her a showing hat with leather harness. Maybe Canery jods, what colour boots?, what type of jacket? shirt & tie or what?

I hope to pick up bits & pieces off EBay as & when they come up so that's why I'm asking early! And don't forget I'm unemployed, so no silly suggestions please!
